Fair Weather by Noon Review"Fair Weather by Noon" recounts the odyssey of two young women navigating their lives through personal and social changes of the 60's & 70's. The protagonist, Cassie, is attracted to the life-styles and options of previous generations of women. Because of her more chaotic upbringing, Julia--Cassie's foil and sometime alter-ego--is less moored by either family or conventional career choices. (I find myself using nautical figures of speech. Much of the novel's action is set on sailboats and by water.)
While the personalities of the two main characters are manifested in their decisions and behavior, their inner lives are often related through the material details of thier domestic lives: what they notice and admire, and what they overlook. It is often through reading descriptions of objects and landscapes (or seascapes) that the reader comes to care for Cassie and Julia.
I look forward to the author's next effort, and hope that it takes us further into the lives of Cassie and Julia.Fair Weather by Noon OverviewCassie and Julia meet as college freshmenin September, 1960. An attraction of opposites forges a strong friendship betweentradition-loving Cassie and independent, often impulsive Julia.
