Weather With You - Double Pack ReviewAt about the peak of their global popularity in 1992 Crowded House and their UK label, Capitol Records, opted to put out what they called the Woodface Singles Collection. Each of the four singles released from "Woodface" (Weather With You; Fall At Your Feet; Four Seasons in One Day; and It's Only Natural) would be specially released in a two pack singles set and would include a number of live recordings, tracks from earlier releases, and other material. While it would seem to be targeted to obsessive completists, they actually proved to be quite popular even though offered in very limited quantities and the idea trickled down to their regular CD singles.
"Weather With You" disc one and two contain the single edit and radio edit of that track, but the big bonus here are the live tracks. Disc One includes the aptly dubbed "Byrdhouse" tracks that were actually released on an earlier single. The Brydhouse name comes as a result of ex-Byrd's frontman Roger McGuinn joining the band for three Byrds tracks: "Mr. Tamborine Man;" "Eight Miles High;" and "So You Want to be a Rock n Roll Star." The harmonies between McGuinn and Neil Finn are phenomenal and the disc set is worth it for these tracks alone. Shortly after hearing the opening bars of "Mr. Tamborine Man" you become acutely aware of how much Crowded House was influenced by the Byrds. The sound quality of the live recordings is particularly good; far better than poor quality bootlegs that have been floating around for years.
Disc Two is every bit as exciting as it includes three live tracks of Crowded House material including "Fall At Your Feet," "When You Come," and the previously unreleased "Walking on the Spot" which fits nicely into the overall Crowded House oeuvre. The three live tracks were recorded at the Town & Country Club in London in front of a very enthusiastic audience giving this two disc set a huge "WOW!" factor. This set easily earns five stars and is worth the money if you can find it now.
