Steve and Lacey (Volume 1) ReviewJust finished reading "Steve and Lacey," a touching, contemporary, coming of age love story with the Afghanistan war in the background and some very adult decisions needing to be made by the teenage heroine. Caught between the wishes of her dying father, and the magnetic pull of her own heart's desires, Lacey learns some of life's toughest lessons- that life is too short to hold grudges which can turn into lifelong regrets, that love covers a multitude of sins, and that standing up for what one truly desires is the surest path to joy when that desire is grounded in mature love.
Anyone who reads romance novels will enjoy this story, but young adults (18 and older, as the book does have a few mature love scenes), those with loved ones suffering from kidney disease, and those with loved ones in the military will find it particularly engrossing.
As a registered nurse with a decade of experience in caring for clients on dialysis and who have had kidney transplants, I can also attest to the realistic portrayal of kidney disease that's in this book.
