Aviation Weather Services: Advisory Circular AC00-45F (FAA Handbooks) ReviewI have always seen this book on the shelves of the pilot shops, but I have never had interest in buying it as I thought that it was overwhelming to know all the information contained. But as I am approaching the checkride at the FSDO for my CFII certificate, I do not want to miss a thing, especially about a critical topic such as the weather.
This book is the printed version of a FAA circular, and it contains a comprehensive explanation of all weather products. All pilots MUST be able to use these products, especially private pilots without an instrument rating. However, even more experienced pilots have to rely on weather charts and bulletins to make their go no go decision. I have seen many pilots not familiar with these products, and therefore not able to tell if the weather was suitable for the proposed flight.
Flight schools and instructors often do not emphasize the relevance of understanding weather products; this book is a great way to improve a pilot's familiarity with the weather information.
This book in fact explains in detail all weather services and products, how they work and most importantly how to use them at best, being very straightforward. Therefore, even if you are not interested, for example, in understanding how the weather radar works, you should be at least very concerned on understanding how to use a weather radar chart or image. The same applies to all the other weather charts and bulletins.
To conclude, a book that should be on any pilot shelf, and head.Aviation Weather Services: Advisory Circular AC00-45F (FAA Handbooks) OverviewConsidered the definitive resource when studying for pilot certification exams, this new, greatly expanded and full-color edition includes weather station location tables, lists of contractions and acronyms, weather symbols, conversion charts, Internet links, and more.Thoroughly explainingthe many U.S. aviation weather products and services available to pilots, thiscomprehensive manualdetails the interpretation and application of advisories, coded weather reports, forecasts, observed and prognostic weather charts, and radar and satellite imagery. Featuring full-color illustrations throughout, andextensive coverage of weather-related tools to assist pilots with flight planning and in-flight decisions, thisessential resourceoffers an unprecedented level of convenience and education for planning flights and researching weather.
