World Weary Avengers (All Geeked Up) ReviewTom is a misanthropic techno-genius who whiles away his time at a bankrupt bookstore (and, later, as a panhandler) while plotting how to make the world better... or worse... or different... or the same. When his first attempt, to improve the world by shouting loud ideas to the right people at the right time, fails miserably, Tom falls into the sort of depression that mad scientists are made off. Can Tom, and the world, be saved?
There are a lot of things that are bad about this book. The characters act inconsistently, the plot seems to have been written at the seat of the author's pants, and there are the sort of copywriting issues you can expect from a self-published work. And yet...
And yet, I liked this book, gosh darn it. The opening pages were absurdly funny, and by the time the style changes, I was hooked. This novella is short, and the plot zips along. The premise and main character are so bizarre, there's something enjoyable about it. In other words, WORLD WEARY AVENGERS is my latest guilty pleasure.
If lines like "Just give me a call, oh, I forgot. You don't have a phone." make you smile, get this book - it's free, after all. But if hokey humor and absurdist plots make you groan, you're better up passing this one up.
