The Snowy Day: 50th Anniversary Edition ReviewA small book for children, particularly pre-schoolers, about a little boy who goes outside to play in the new fallen snow. It shows the simple joy and delight a child can have with newly fallen snow. I disagree with the comments of an earlier reviewer (Ms. Whittaker from Rush City, Minnesota, in 1998); the artwork is simple and direct because of the nature of the simple and quiet story and because the book is really aimed a pre-schoolers. Interestingly, the book won the 1963 Caldecott Medal for best illustration in a children's book. As far as I can tell, this book is the first winner which is centered about an African-American child. Hence, for this and other reasons, it is a book that should be on the shelf of any serious student of children literature.The Snowy Day: 50th Anniversary Edition Overview

Blue's Clues: Weather Games With Blue (Fearless) ReviewThis book is excellent! I have a 20 month old who loves Blue's Clues and we have recently discovered this book series. As any fan of this show would expect, this book offers plenty of opportunities to interact with your child as they discover the effects of different types of weather in Blue's backyard. My child's language development has been enhanced by naming and pointing to the items in the brilliantly colored pictures. This book immediately captured my child's attention and even though we read it every day she still gets excited when I pull it out for her! As a Child Development Specialist by day and a Mommy by night, I can't say enough good things about this board book and the others offered in this series!Blue's Clues: Weather Games With Blue (Fearless) OverviewWind, sun, rain or snow, Blue, Kevin and their friends have a game for every season. Weather/El Tiempo ReviewMy daughter was 2 when I bought this book, along with a few other bilingual French/English books, for her. This one wasn't a huge hit because it didn't have a "story". I should imagine most parents teaching their children a (non-native) second language would have a dictionary - well, you could do the job of this book with just some pictures and a basic French dictionary. Vocab is easy to learn from a dictionary, it's the grammar that you get from stories that really helps you grasp a foreign language. So for that reason, we're steering clear of the "word" books now and just reading the stories. My daughter is nearly 3 now, she doesn't speak much French at all, but she loves the stories I read in French, even though she doesn't understand them word-for-word.Weather/El Tiempo OverviewFriendly teddy bears teach new words to very young children--and in two languages! Bilingual First Books give little boys and girls an early start in learning a foreign language at the same time that kids are learning their own language. Books are arranged as a series of brightly illustrated two-page spreads, each spread showing teddy bears engaged in an activity that kids will recognize immediately. A simple word that describes the activity is presented in English on the left-hand page and in Spanish on the right-hand page. This attractive little volume is entirely bilingual, and will find a welcome place in homes where the children's parents' first language is English, or Spanish. A word pronunciation guide appears on the last page.

Maisy's Wonderful Weather Book ReviewWhat a great book! This is my 20 month old son's favorite book. He is really into weather, so it is perfect. I agree that unless you have a child that is gentle with books, then it is a "read together" book because he could easily rip off some of the moveable parts. But don't let that stop you - it's a fun, bright and colorful book for boys or girls. The front cover has a moving dial and you can change the weather that shows in the circle to a sunshine, rain cloud, rainbow, wind (shown by blowing leaves), snow or lighting. Each page in the book is dedicated to a different type of weather.
Pg 1: At the start of the story, Maisy opens the curtains in her bedroom (with your help) to reveal a bright sunny day with puffy white clouds and a bird singing.
Pg 2: Sunny day. Maisy changes from her regular clothes to a cute swimsuit by pulling the flap.
Pg 3: Snowy day. Maisy is feeding the birds outside and if you pull the flap the clouds let out a tumble of snow.
Pg 4: Rainy day. Help Maisy jump in the puddles with her flowered umbrella and yellow rainboots.
Pg 5: Windy day. Turn the dial and watch the wind blow leaves, Maisy's hat and kite.
Pg 6: Stormy day. Maisy is sitting on the couch with her panda and kitty, looking out the window at the rain. Pull the flap and "boom!" - the lighting crashes down. Sound effect is provided by the reader of the story, of course.
Pg 7: Rainbow day. Maisy is dancing in the rain, and if you rotate this flap a beautiful rainbow and sunshine pop out. This is the most colorful page in the book. The colors are listed on the left side of the page so you can help your child learn the colors too.Maisy's Wonderful Weather Book OverviewWhether it's snowy, rainy, or sunny, readers can explore the natural world with Maisy and find out how wonderful weather can be!What's the weather, Maisy?
