Mama, Will It Snow Tonight ReviewThe mother fox lovingly looked down at her kit when he asked, "Mama, will it snow?" A bunny asked the same thing of his Mama as did a little girl. "No. No. No snow tonight," they answered. The season was changing and the colorful leaves began to leave their branches and fall to the ground and a chill began to set in. It's an exciting time when critters and little girls wait for the first snow, especially when weather signs point to the change.
"Mama, will it snow?
Mama, will it snow?
Mama, will it snow tonight?
The wind is brrrr.
The bushes bare.
The berries picked."
This was a beautiful, graceful book that captures the essence of the change of season from autumn to winter. The simple repetitive dialogue meshes perfectly with the watercolors. The artwork captures those subtle signs that snow will arrive soon, something that can be discussed with the young child. For example, "That night they all looked up at the hazy-lazy, fuzzy moon." On the following page you can see small snowflakes swirling in the moonlight. If you have a little one who loves to play outside and is awaiting the first arrival of snow, you'll love this gentle read!Mama, Will It Snow Tonight OverviewThe last leaves of autumn are falling. The wind is blowing and the bushes are bare. The earth is ready for winter, and so are three mothers - a fox, a hare, and a human - whose young ones anxiously await the first snow of winter. Each evening they ask their mothers the same question: "Mama, will it snow tonight?" The snow may not come this night, but soon, when the moon looks right, the mothers know the snow will fall.

Lucia and the Light ReviewI bought this book for my 3 year old daughter, whose name is Lucia. What a beautifully illustrated book, and what a great message. Girls, even little girls, can be strong, brave, capable, and independent..and endure. This message, as well as love, family, and sacrifice, weaves through a pint sized mystery and adventure. I was just as captivated by the story as my children were! A gem!Lucia and the Light Overview

Splish, Splash, Spring ReviewThis book was a little disappointing. I purchased it because my students were learning about Spring. I found that some other Spring-themed books, especially those by Lois Ehlert, were much better. This book did not keep my students' attention and, while the rhyming is cute, it makes very little sense for young children.Splish, Splash, Spring Overview

What Makes the Seasons ReviewI think this is a nice book for toddlers and preschoolers. It is a nice read-aloud, with a cute rhyme and I think it does a pretty good job answering the questions it raises.
An example of what you will find follows:
The colored leaves dance all around.
But WHY do leaves fall to the ground?
In all the leaves on all the trees
Are tiny tree food factories.
Leaves use sun to make the food.
When there's less sun, leaves com unglued.
Four Stars. [B-]. Artwork is bright and attractive. Nice rhyme makes for a good read-aloud. The book provides a nice introduction to the why and wherefore of the seasons: earth's movement around the sun; rain freezing to make snow, etc. What Makes the Seasons Overview

Four Seasons Make a Year ReviewThis book follows a little girl who lives on a farm through the four seasons. It starts out in spring and the little girl plants a sunflower seed by her door. She tells us about Spring turning into summer. In summer on her fam her family has a roadside stand where they sell corn and squash. September rolls around and fall comes to the farm. Pumpkins are now he crop of choice at her family's stand. December comes soon and it's winter on the farm. She has saved the sunflower seeds from the flower she has planted and feeds then to the birds.
I liked the illustrations in the book. They were bright and colorful and added lots to the text. This is a wonderful picture book for kids and a great resource for teachers when teaching about plant life and the four seasons.

The Windy Day ReviewWe get a lot of wind during our summer storms out here in Arizona. We like "The Storm Book" by Margaret Bloy Graham, and we like this book, too. It's a happy little story of how a little breeze chases the blues away and leads to big imaginings. The Windy Day Overview
